General works, history of books

The library's collections usually designated as "General works" may be estimated as containing 150 000 volumes. These include not only encyclopaedias, bibliographies, and the history of books and libraries, but also documents about universities and institutions of learning, and the world of publishing and the media in general, as well as multidisciplinary works. In 1920, this heading covered about 20 000 volumes.

Current acquisitions

In addition to the printed documents freely available to readers in the reading rooms (general works and encyclopaedias in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, and Russian, and the history of books and libraries), the BNU has substantially developed the offer of online resources in these fields in recent years.
